Product Empties #8
I have left my blog dead for wayyyy too long. Honestly, I don't even know if any one reads this anymore but I've got a whole paper bag full of empties that I really want to throw away but I can't until I actually do up all these empties posts so guess what's coming your way... Loads of empties hahaha. I'll do what I usually do, 10 items per post to keep it short and sweet so without further ado, shall we get started?

Night Skin Care Routine
It's been quite some time since I did an updated skin care routine so I thought it was time I did one. I've changed quite a bit of products in my routine and some of them I'm still using so if you're interested in more details/explanations about my skin care routine and to see what products I used to use, you can check out my Sunday Night Pamper Routine. Without further ado, let's get on with this post.
Since I wear makeup on a daily basis, I always start my skin care routine with a double cleanse to full remove the makeup from my face and the face makeup remover I'm using at the moment is from Innisfree and it is the Olive Real Cleansing Oil. I'm planning to do a review on this soon so stay tuned for that but it smells great and is really effective at removing my makeup without leaving a greasy layer on my face so I am really liking it.
For my facial cleanser, I'm currently using the same range as my eye makeup remover and it is the Rice Water Bright Cleansing Foam from The Face Shop. I feel that this is a decent cleanser but not my favourite one, especially since it doesn't really help to remove makeup.

For my eye makeup remover I'm currently using The Face Shop's Rice Water Bright Lip & Eye Makeup Remover. I love how this removes my waterproof mascara and all my eyeshadows well and it doesn't sting my eyes at all. It does take a while to properly break down my waterproof mascara but it removes my eyeshadows really quickly.
For toner, I am back to using my holy grail Boots Botanics Cleansing Toner All Bright. I have used up a good 4 bottles of this and despite trying different toners, I always find myself gravitating back to this because it is just THAT good. Nothing beats this toner when it comes to brightening the skin so if you're looking for a toner that does just that, then this is the one for you.
After toner I like to use an eye cream and the one I'm using at the moment is from Innisfree and it is the White Tone Up Eye Serum. It's a pretty comfortable eye serum on the eyes and it provides the basic hydration but I wouldn't say there is anything special about it.
The essence of the moment is from Nature Republic and it is The First Essence. This essence suffices as an essence but I don't really see much effect from it. At this point of time, I'm pretty much waiting for it to finish before I can move on to the next one. If you're looking for a better essence and you're willing to spend a bit more on it, I would recommend the IOPE Bio Essence Intensive Conditioning. It is a lot more pricey but it works a lot better.
At the moment, I'm using 2 different serums at night, one for basic hydration and the other as an added on treatment. Both of them are from the brand It's Skin Power 10 Formula line and if you don't already know, I love their VC Effector. The hydrating serum is the GF Effector which does a decent job at providing moisture to my skin. I also like to use the CO Effector which helps with anti-aging. Using 2 serums at one go creates a pretty thick layer on the skin so I only do this at night.
For spot treatments, I alternate between using the Nature Republic Aloe Soothing Gel and It's Skin Power 10 VB Effector. Both help in speeding up the healing process of my spots. I wouldn't say either are holy grail products yet because they don't actually work all the time but they suffice for now.
If I have the time, I like to do a sheet mask before I put on a sleeping pack. I'm finishing up the sheet masks from Etude House and while they're not exactly my favourite ones to use, they are pretty decent for an every day pick-me-up. The sleeping mask of choice is the Laneige Water Sleeping Pack_EX. I used to love this product a lot last time but now, not so much. It just doesn't do anything for me anymore so once agin, I'm just finishing this up.
I hope this has helped you in some way in forming your own skin care routine! Till next time, thank you for reading!

Review | It's Skin Power 10 Formula GF Effector
I've always been digging It's Skin's Power 10 Formula serums and the VC Effector is my all time favourite. Funnily enough, I seem to not have done a review on that but I will get it up soon I promise!
Because of how amazing the VC Effector worked for me I wanted to try more serums from the line. Since my skin gets horribly dry every once in a while, I thought I would pick up the GF Effector which is good for hydration and I have to say that I'm liking it quite a bit. So without further ado, let's talk about specifics.
This is a potent serum that deeply penetrates skin's layers to deliver GF-Biopolymer at the cellular level to relieve the symptoms of dryness and sensitivity. Used on cleansed and toned skin, this serum softens and smoothens rough patches, effectively prepping skin for maximum absorption of moisturizers from succeeding treatments and keeping it protected from external aggressors with a long-lasting moisture shield. (Credit: x)
The serum comes in a little transparent glass bottle and each serum comes in a different coloured bottle. I like how it's transparent because you can see exactly how much product is left. It contains 30 ml which is the standard amount you typically get. I wouldn't say this is very travel friendly because glass bottles tend to be heavier than plastic ones and also, they have a higher likelihood of breaking than plastic ones but given the size, it's definitely pretty portable.
It comes with a transparent plastic cap which I presume helps to keep the stopper in place even if you accidentally forget to screw it tightly in place which is great because I am a hazard like that and this prevents the product from going everywhere.
Like all other serums from this line, it comes in a dropper which I have a love-hate relationship with. I like how this definitely makes it really hygienic and I can control just how much product I want to dispense. But when I'm nearly done with this and there's only a bit left, the dropper doesn't pick it up and I have to tilt the bottle upside down and wait for the serum to slowly drip down to the opening.
I usually dispense 3/4 of the dropper onto my palms and then pat the serum all over my whole face and neck.
The texture of the serum is pretty watery but it has a bit more viscosity than normal water. It blends really easily into my skin and it doesn't leave it feeling sticky or greasy. It doesn't feel heavy on the skin as well. My skin does feel slightly more hydrated than before, but only slightly. If you have super dry skin, I honestly don't think this will help much but for people with normal to combination skin, this should sit quite nicely on your skin.
I don't know if you can actually tell but there are little blue flecks in the serum which I think contains moisturising ingredients in them. They pretty much disappear once you pat the serum onto your skin so don't worry about having little blue flecks all over your face!
Overall:
PROS:
- Hygienic dropper system
- Lightweight serum
- Blends easily on the skin
- No sticky/greasy feeling
- Glass bottle isn't very travel friendly
- Hydrates the skin slightly
CONS:
- Not hydrating enough for people with dry skin
- Doesn't do much for me actually
If I were to be truly honest, this was a letdown for me because while I really like how it applies on my skin, I felt that it didn't actually do much. I'm used to seeing amazing results with the VC Effector and I was really hoping that I would love the other serums from the same range but so far I have lucked out in that department.
Don't get me wrong, it isn't that I don't like this serum but I just don't love it. I still won't give up on this range and I am definitely going to try out the other effectors but I am pretty sure I won't be repurchasing this one again.

Review | It's Skin Power 10 Formula CO Effector
I have been in love with the whole Power 10 Formula line from the brand It's Skin and besides the slightly disappointing GF Effector, my favourite one has been and forever will be the VC Effector. I am on a mission to try out as many of the serums from this line as possible because they are incredibly affordable and who doesn't love an affordable serum that actually works? I know I do.
CO Effector is a skincare serum infused with plant-sourced phyto-collagen extracts that penetrate into the inner dermal layers to hydrate skin from within. If enlarged pores start to become visible and skin looks loose, use CO Effector that provides moisture and firmness together with PO Effector that provides care for pores for even better effects.
Directions: Place 2-3 drops onto palm and gently pat it onto your faec and neck until fully absorbed.
Firstly, this little bottle is incredibly affordable. It is 9,600 KRW which is approximately $12 or so for 30ml. I don't know where else can you get serums at this price that actually works (well some of them do at least).
It comes in a little glass bottle with a transparent cover and a white screw top. The bottle itself is pretty small which makes it convenient to bring around but the fact that the bottle is made of glass makes it a lot less travel friendly because glass is heavier than plastic and breaks a lot more easily as well.
It comes with a dropper attached to the top and while the instructions say that 2-3 drops is enough, I typically use slightly more than that, 3-4 drops for my whole face.
The serum is slightly cloudy but mostly transparent, and it's consistency is slightly thicker than water. But it is surprisingly easy to blend and my skin absorbs this really quickly. It doesn't leave my skin feeling heavy or sticky at all which is great considering how it isn't exactly the lightest in texture. I usually use this at night after my toner and essence because our skin tends to renew itself overnight when we sleep and what better way to boost collagen production at night than with a serum that contains collagen itself?
The serum smells amazing and I can only describe it as wonderfully floral. I am horrible at describing scents as you all know so all I can say is that it smells great and I really like it. I don't smell it after my skin absorbs it so if you're particular about fragrances then this may be something you have to consider.
After using this for a few weeks, I have to say that my skin feels more moisturised and softer. It does provide a slight glow to my face but it doesn't last and is only seen after application.
I feel that my laugh lines (I do have a bit) are a bit less obvious than before. I don't actually notice my skin becoming brighter or firmer though which kind of defeats the whole purpose of using this I feel. But then again, I'm only 20ish and I don't exactly need anti-ageing products yet just that it is always better to prevent than to cure.
Overall:
PROS:
- Affordable
- Smells wonderfully floral
- Blends and spreads very well
- Moisturising
- Skin feels softer
- Laugh lines slightly less obvious
- Not heavy or sticky
CONS:
- Not very travel friendly
- Glow on face doesn't last
- Does not brighten skin
- Skin does not exactly feel firmer
While I do like how this feels on the skin, it doesn't do what it claims to do which was quite a big let down for me. Out of all the effectors I've tried, so far only 1 has impressed me and it is still the VC Effector. The rest are decent and they are really affordable but I just haven't been wowed by their effects yet. I still won't stop trying the other effectors in hopes that there are others that will work but I probably wouldn't be recommending this to any one any time soon.

A'pieu, Banila Co, Bioderma, Care Zone, It's Skin, Mamonde, Peripera, Tony Moly Haul
This is the last haul post from my Korea trip and it is basically from a bunch of brands where I bought only a few items from and thus do not warrant a whole post on the brand.
I bought these 2 perfumes from a store in Hongdae (I can't remember what the store's name was) but these 2 perfumes were insanely cheap. I think they were probably $5-$10 per bottle only? And they smell amazing as well. They are from the brand W. Dressroom New York and I got one in 45 Morning Rain and 46 Pure Lily. Can't wait to start using these 2 scents.
Bioderma has been taking the world by storm and every one is raving about how effective it is at removing makeup so I got a bottle to try because it is so much cheaper in Korea than it is in Singapore and they had a free mini bottle of it as well.
Another cleansing balm that has been taking over the world is the Clean It Zero from the brand Banila Co. My sister snagged one for herself and so did I.
I've never tried products from A'pieu before but I fell in love with 2 of their Pastel Blushers and I got them in the shades WH01 and VL01.
I've also heard good things about the Jasmine Cleansing Oil and I picked it up as well. Can't wait to give this a whirl!
I've finished the two boxes of Care Zone Clarifying Spot Patch and I feel that they are a really convenient way to cure pimples especially if you want to keep your spots free from more bacteria so I picked up another two more. They were really cheap, 2 boxes for only 5,000 KRW. Also, I like how they are transparent. A lot of the acne patches here in Singapore are all skin coloured and the shade just doesn't match my skin at all so they stick out like a sore thumb.
Oh my word, It's Skin Power 10 Formula Effectors are my all time favourite serums ever. I finished my VC Effector quite a while ago and I was so sad about it so I knew I had to get 2 more of it for myself so I don't run out any time soon. I picked out 2 new ones to try as well because I wanted to see if there were other serums from the range that were good as well. I got the CO Effector which is for collagen and the GF Effector which is for hydration.
I picked out another stick eye shadow and it is the Color Longwear Shadow Stick from the brand A'pieu in the shade BE02.
From the brand Mamonde I got the Floral Hydro Mist for days when I need a boost of moisture but I have makeup on my face, and the Lotus Micro Mild Foam because I heard really good things about how it is really gentle on the skin but helps suck out impurities from the pores like no other. They had a buy 1 get 1 free by the way that is why I got 2 of each product.
From the brand Peripera, I got 3 lip products. Like I need more lippies right haha. I got the Rouge Pang in the shades RD04, OR05 and RD09. I've never tried Peripera's products before either.
The very last item I got was from Tony Moly and it is the Petite Bunny Gloss Bar in the shade 06. I just had to get this because it is sooo cute. The cap has a bunny face printed on it and it has bunny ears on it as well.
And this concludes the end of all my haul posts from Korea. I hope that it has been fun for you to poke around and see what I got because I love seeing other people's hauls and finding out what they got.

Review | It's Skin Power 10 Formula VB Effector
One of my holy grail serums is from the brand It's Skin and it is the VC Effector. I love citrusy scents and it works amazingly at brightening my skin and lightening my acne scars so the next time I went back to Korea, I wanted to try more of the Power 10 Formula Effectors from the brand. Each of these effectors, or serums, have different active ingredients and target different purposes. The VC one has vitamin C which helps with, well, brightening the skin. The next one I got was the VB Effector which has vitamin B as the main active ingredient.
The VB Effector is said to help control excess sebum secretion which helps in turn to keep the skin clear from acne. I used to have a pretty oily T-Zone so I wanted something to help control shine especially in Singapore when the weather is ridiculously hot and humid all year round.
So firstly, the scent is really light and pleasant with a hint of flowers. I'm really bad at describing scents so this is probably not the most descriptive way of describing the scent but nonetheless, it is light and pleasant, not offensive in any way at all. It doesn't linger on your skin and you don't smell it a few seconds after you're done applying the serum on the face.
It comes in a glass bottle with a dropper like all the effectors which is great at dispensing the required number of drops for your face. If I'm applying this on my whole face, I'll typically dispense 3-4 drops on my palm, rub my palms together, and pat it all over my face. If I'm applying it to a particular area of my face, I find that 1-2 drops is more than enough.
The texture is on the thicker side, not very watery, although I wouldn't say that it's thick also. It spreads really easily on my skin which is why a little goes a long way. It does tend to leave a sticky residue but I'm not bothered by it because I don't usually touch my face after I'm done applying my skincare.
This serum works, which is why I have a love-hate relationship with it. Let me explain.
When I first started using this serum, I applied it on my whole face. It definitely works at controlling sebum production because after 2-3 days of applying it on my face twice a day (once in the morning and once at night), my face started peeling. My T-Zone is a tad oily and my cheeks are normal, leaning slightly to the dry side. So when I started using this serum religiously, my skin got so dry that it started peeling and I stopped using this for a good 2-3 months because I was scarred by it. I didn't expect its capabilities at controlling oil to be this amazing.
When my face started becoming more spotty as my face does every few months, I started applying this serum only on my spots, or if I had a particularly spotty area, I'll apply the serum on the whole area and boy does it work at healing my spots faster and preventing new ones from popping out. Right now, I only apply it on spots and it works amazingly.
Overall:
PROS:
- Light, pleasant scent
- Inexpensive
- Semi-watery texture
- Spreads easily
- Comes with a dropper for easy dispensing
- Controls sebum production really well
- Helps heal spots and prevent new ones from forming
CONS:
- May break easily because it comes in a glass bottle
- Leaves a sticky feeling on the face
- May be drying for people with dry/normal skin
All in all, I think it is an amazingly good product for the price if you manage to use it in a way that suits your skin. I believe that this will work wonders for people with oily skin. But if you have normal to combination skin, this can work for you as well if you only apply it to the areas that require it. This is the second serum that I've tried from It's Skin and both of them have yet to disappoint me. I still have a few other different ones left to try but these small bottles hold so much promise! I can't wait to try the rest of them :>

#1144: Current Skin Care Favourites
Something that's always been really important to me is having good, clear skin.
I used to be plagued with acne for more than 3 years and it got so bad that I went to visit a dermatologist to get prescribed medication just to cope with it. I was prescribed both topical and oral medication but I've stopped taking oral medication for more than a year already and I only apply the topical creams as and when I feel that my skin is getting really bad (which hardly happens anymore, thank goodness).
The horrific thing about acne and scarring is that no matter how much make up you pile on your skin, you can never fully hide the bumps. Redness I can deal with with some foundation and concealer but you can never hide skin unevenness.
Thank goodness for the medication, it stopped my acne cycle and since then, I still suffer from the occasional break out but never anything as bad as last time and right now, I'm mostly left with the scars from before that are lightening nicely and can mostly be covered.
I attribute my current skin condition to the (medication that I took, but mostly to the) beauty products that I've been using religiously and I'm super excited to talk about them!! I've been using some of them for the longest time and they've been my favourites for quite a long time already. Do note that I'm no beauty expert and that whatever I say here is just my own opinion.
Before I rave about them, this is my skin right now, with only one layer of foundation and a little loose powder. I did not use any filter on any of my photos and all photos are taken under natural lighting.
You can still see a little scarring on my cheeks and a little bump on my forehead but it's all mostly cleared up!! My skin has never been this good in the past half a decade and boy am I thankful for that.
Without further ado, I present to you my current beauty favourites!
The first item is Innisfree's It's Real Rice Mask and I am really loving this mask! I've always loved Innisfree's masks and I swear by them because not only do they feel amazing, they really keep my skin hydrated. I've used many of their masks from their It's Real range like green tea, aloe, lemon lime, manuka honey…
I used their rice mask for the first time a couple of days ago and I must say that it feels lovely on the skin. Rice is known to help brighten the skin, reduce redness and to firm up the skin. I wouldn't say it exactly reduces the redness on my skin (my skin isn't usually very red so I can't tell the difference) and I don't know if it firms up my skin but it really does help brighten my skin up.
I usually do sheet masks at night, 2 to 3 times a week, before I sleep. I'll apply toner and eye cream first, before doing sheet masks, then leave the mask on my face for 20 minutes before removing the sheet mask and patting all the serum leftover on my face into my skin and continuing with my skin care routine. Usually I don't see much difference after using masks except for noticeable increase in hydration levels, but my skin did look amazing in the morning the next day.
I have a lot more masks from Innisfree (and The Face Shop, Etude House, Nature Republic…. haha I'm a mask hoarder, I'll do a mask haul post soon!) to try out but so far I'm really loving the rice mask from Innisfree!
One of Innisfree's top selling products will have to be their Green Tea Seed Serum. As seen on the Innisfree website, the Green Tea Seed Serum is a "moisturizing and nourishing serum with organic green tea seeds from Jeju to fill the skin with suppleness and clarity." Also, quoting what is on the bottle, "Enriched with fresh green tea seeds and squeezed green tea from the pure Jeju island to deliver abundant moisture and nourishment deep into your skin."
This serum is also part of Innisfree's 6-free pledge: Free from paragons, pigments, mineral oil, ethanol, benzophenone and animal ingredients.
For the packaging, what's great is that it comes with a little matte brown cover which prevents any accidental dispensing of the product if you were to bring it out with you and put it in your bag.
Firstly, the scent is amazing. It smells really fresh and refreshing, one whiff and I was sold. (Smell it and you'll understand what I mean.)
The serum is also really light and watery which is really lovely for Singapore's humid climate and my skin does absorb the serum really quickly and does not leave a sticky residue. Also, because it's really watery, a little goes a long way. It leaves my skin feeling refreshed and dewy (as you can see from the picture above).
On the downside though, it doesn't really moisturize my skin as much as I would like it to.
Psst, green tea is also packed with anti-oxidants so for all those who are concerned about skin aging, green tea products will definitely help in that area!
The third item is It's Skin Power 10 Formula VC Effector. The VC Effector is the top seller in their Power 10 Formula line and it's a brightening serum which contains vitamin C and green tea components which helps suppress the formation of freckles that can make the skin look dull and dark, and it helps tightens pores to leave skin fair and luminous.
From what I've researched, It's Skin is a dupe for the famous Skin Inc but the price is so much more reasonable. Skin Inc's Regulate Vitamin C Serum (which the VC Effector is a dupe for) is a crazy S$128. Can I just say that the VC Effector is only 9,800 Korean won which is like slightly more than S$12. Just the price point alone is such an attractive factor, considering both serums are the same size (30ml).
I do have pretty sensitive skin (and all beauty advisors like to tell me this over and over again -_- like I don't already know it.) I've had this for months (since my first trip to Korea in June) but I didn't try it because I just started using the green tea seed serum from Innisfree and I didn't want to apply too many new products on my face at one time just in case I break out from the overload of new products. So I've only tried this for a week or so and I AM LOVING IT. No joke.
Packaging-wise, it comes in a dropper bottle which is good because I can control the amount of liquid that comes out (typically 2 drops is enough for my whole face) and it is encased in a small transparent cover which helps protect the rubber dropper.
Firstly, the VC Effector has a citrusy smell which is amazing 'cuz I love citrus scents but if you don't then maybe this product isn't for you.
Also, it's slightly on the thick side so it takes my skin a while to fully absorb the product but I'm not particular about that.
My skin looks instantly brighter whenever I apply it and after a week or so, it hasn't given me break outs which is amazing (I just added it into my skin care routine without removing something else which isn't the smartest idea if your skin is sensitive but who cares?)
It's also quite watery even though it's thicker than Innisfree's Green Tea Seed Serum so I'll usually use this after the Green Tea Seed Serum.
I also bought 2 other products from the Power 10 Formula line but I haven't tried them yet. I'll update this space if I find that I love them more or as much as the VC Effector!
The next on my list is Laneige's Water Sleeping Pack_EX and this has been my holy grail sleeping pack for the longest time. (It also is my sister's and a lot of my friend's holy grail sleeping pack as well!)
According to Laneige's website, the "light gel-type texture provides intensive hydration, vitality, and brightening effect while restoring skin with deep relaxation."
It claims to do a lot of things and while I do not know whether it provides vitality and brightens my skin, I do know it does provide a lot of hydration to my skin and every morning when I wake up, my skin feels super hydrated and as my friends put it, have the "doink doink" effect (I think it means like your skin feels bouncy 'cuz it's hydrated.)
I usually apply this every night before I sleep as the last step in my skin care routine and it has never failed me. I'm currently using my second tub (almost halfway through!) and yes I have 2 more tubs stocked up just because I think this product is amazing and has never failed me so far. Whenever my skin feels exceptionally dry, like when I travel to other countries and the climate there is drier than that of Singapore, I'll apply slightly more on the areas that are dry and I wake up to clear, glowing, hydrated skin.
Also, the texture is really light despite being so moisturizing so it's good for Singapore's humidity and it does absorb fast without leaving a sticky residue. That being said, when I apply this, it's the last step in my skin care routine so that means I've already got quite a lot of products on my face and so it does not exactly absorb as quickly as if you were to only put this product on your face.
Another favourite of mine is Kiehl's Creamy Eye Treatment with Avocado which has been loved by many people. According to the website, Kiehl's website, "this creamy preparation with Avocado Oil, gently moisturizers the delicate eye area. Our unique, concentrated texture does not migrate into your eyes. Ophthalmologist-Tested. Dermatologist-Tested."
The first thing I noticed about the eye cream was that it is super creamy and looks really thick and I was scared that it will be too oily for my eyes. No one wants oil seeds around their eyes. Also, if the eye cream is oily, make up won't stay on and will slide around which really sucks.
But despite the thick and creamy texture, it wasn't oily at all and I did not have any problems with oil seeds or problems with my makeup sliding off my eye area which is really surprising.
It is extremely moisturizing which is really lovely. Definitely good for people who have dry eye areas!
The only downside of this product is that it doesn't have any brightening effects and it doesn't reduce dark eye circles or puffiness. It's purely for moisturizing but it does do its job well.
And last but definitely not least, Skin Food's Black Sugar Mask Wash Off. This has been highly raved all over the internet and I couldn't wait to get my hands on it when I first went to Seoul. This mask is packed with minerals, vitamins and glycol acid which has moisturizing effects and and helps to exfoliate the skin.
The first time I used it, oh my word, I could feel the effects of the scrub immediately. You know how certain scrubs leave your skin feeling really clean afterwards - some times too clean and your skin feels slightly tight?
Well, this mask doesn't have that effect at all. My skin feels baby skin smooth and moisturized even though it's just been exfoliated and it doesn't leave my skin red or irritated at all.
The smell is just amazing.
I usually apply this mask on my face after cleansing and leave it on for 15 minutes before massaging the product onto my face with damp hands to exfoliate my skin. After most of the sugar granules dissolve, I'll rinse my face with water and I'm done.
Definitely a must-buy!!! (I've got another tub in my drawer, that's how much I love it.)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
And that's all for my current beauty favourites! I know I'm not the best reviewer of products (it's my first time) but I really love raving about beauty favourites to all my friends and we can spend hours discussing what's good and why they're good and I'm researching on new products All. The Time. 'cuz I love skin care and I love make up.Do let me know if this review is helpful and if I should do more of such posts.
Till then, like Shu An always says, go and be beautiful! x
