eighteenpromises : Bangkok Travelogue // Roast Coffee & Purr Cat Cafe Club.

Our 4th day in BKK consisted mostly of cafe hopping and eating really good food. BKK's cafe culture is so on fleek because they have so much more space to build cafes and to really decorate the place up. Unlike Singapore, where land is so scarce so most cafes are tiny and this restricts the freedom for cafe owners to really decorate and build up the ambience.

Nonetheless, we started our day right with matching tee shirts we got from Platinum Mall because why not? I'm not huge on couple tees to be honest. I'm okay if we wear matching colours or like denim shirts but not the exact same piece of clothing. However, since we were overseas, why not? Yes I am aware that I'm weird.

We got seats on the BTS!! I cannot tell you how happy something this small makes me feel.

Also, since we were not in Singapore, we can eat/drink in the train if we wish to do so. And that was what I did. I swear, only Singaporeans get a cheap thrill in drinking/eating on trains.

Our first stop of the day is the very famous Roast Coffee. My friend Cheryl loves this place so much and since she highly recommended this cafe, I thought SH and I should pay it a visit.

A piece of advice though, just take a tuktuk or a cab from the BTS over to Roast. Don't bother walking there in the insane heat. SH and I walked a good 20 minutes there and we almost died. Also, we had to queue up for around 30 minutes for a table and the mall Roast is located in does not have air conditioning. We were literally melting.

The first item that caught my eye was the Iced Espresso Latte (120 baht). I've never tried coffee with espresso cubes before and I thought it was a pretty ingenious idea!

This simple and fun drink was created at our original establishment Ohana fresh cafe in 2008. Out of frustration that the flavour of his iced coffee would get diluted from the melted ice, our barista decided to reverse engineer the drink. By turning espresso into ice cubes, the drink always remains cold and the flavour actually gets stronger over time! You can then balance the taste by adding more milk and syrup to your liking.

The coffee was so smooth without a hint of bitterness or acidity at all. It is quite literally the perfect mix of both and I didn't even need to add sugar syrup at all and that's saying a lot because I'm a huge fan of sweet drinks.

SH opted for the Minty Limeade (120 baht) which was as cold and refreshing as it sounds. Perfect for the crazy heat that we experienced in BKK!

I really enjoyed how they served us a side of fresh bread and butter before our mains arrived. And they didn't even charge us for it! I never say no to free food~

I went for the very classic Eggs Benedict (280 baht) because I love myself some eggs benny. This. Was. So. Good. Instead of the usual english muffin, it came with a croissant perfectly sliced into 2. The salad was so fresh and tasty as well. You know how some places serve half-assed salads, like a few pieces of lettuce with no dressing? Well, this definitely isn't one of those places. I thoroughly enjoyed this hearty meal to the very last crumb.

SH opted for the American Pancakes (220 baht). This was not his wisest choice at all. Halfway through, the pancakes became really gelat and he just couldn't stomach any more. If you fancy eating all 5 pancakes to yourself, feel free to knock yourself out with this but if you're not the biggest fan of pancakes, then you may want to give this a miss because 5 pancakes is a tad crazy to finish in one sitting.

After a really hearty brunch, our original idea was to head to Mr Jone's Orphanage for desserts but we were really stuffed, and the place was close for some reason (I was so upset about it!) so we decided to change our plans and walked over to Purr Cat Cafe Club to spend some time with the little fluff balls.

Purr Cat Cafe Club was on the way to the BTS station from Roast anyway so we thought we would walk half the journey back to the BTS, chill with the cats, then walk the remaining half after that.

When you go to the Purr Cat Cafe Club, you either pay an entrance fee of 200 baht, or you can order a set meal purchase where the entrance fee will be waived.

SH and I opted for the set meal for 2 people which consisted of either 2 Purr Cakes or 2 Purr Signatures (all listed in the menu below) and 2 hot drinks (you can choose top up a bit more for cold drinks!)

Once you've ordered and paid up, it's time to find yourself a table as close to the furr kids as you can and enjoy your food and drinks while these fickle animals alternately choose to come purring up to you, or ignore you.

And now, be prepared for a huge spam of photos of cats. If you don't like cats for whatever reason, you may choose to ignore the rest of this post because the remaining photos are of cats.

Most of the cats couldn't be bothered with us humans to be honest. Every single table there was vying for their attention and it isn't in a cat's nature to bother much about humans unless they need something so be prepared to spend a lot of time trying (and failing) to lure cats to come over to your table.

One way to lure cats over that I found pretty effective was to bring a paper bag or a box with you. The myth that cats love boxes is actually true. I manage to snag a paper bag that some one left behind and I jiggled it to attract the cats' attention and I actually got quite a few to inspect the paper bag and eventually sit in it for quite a bit of time!

Also, another way is to put all the plastic bags you got from shopping around you and crinkle them. The sound attracts the cats as well.

Just wanted to include here that I really thank my ever patient boyfriend who spent 2 hours using his phone because I was so obsessed with chasing cats around and taking photos of/with them. He's not normally a cat person (he'd much prefer dogs) but he still accompanied me there and sat there whilst I went crazy with the cats. Thank you so much! You're definitely the better half of #yqxsh.
