Bangkok Travelogue // The Best of the Boat Noodles

Since SH really wanted to have boat noodles for lunch, I brought him to The Best of the Boat Noodles (or as the sign board states, The Best of Noodle Boat) for lunch.

One piece of advice, do not order the coke there! The brand they serve isn't Coca Cola so it was really bad. Not only does it not taste like Coke, it was really flat tasting. Think of Coke that has been left out in the open for a few hours with no gas at all left. Really wasn't worth the effort to drink it.

We ordered the Fried Dumplings (12 baht) thinking that it is similar to the fried wonton in Singapore. Big mistake. This dish essentially contains... flour. And that is all there is to it. The center of the "dumplings" contained air. There wasn't any meat at all. What a waste of 12 baht.

At first, we ordered 4 bowls of Thicken Soup with Pork (12 baht) for the both of us but SH added on 3 more bowls for himself. The portions are tiny here, so a typical bowl of noodles in Singapore is equivalent to maybe 4-5 bowls of this.

Whilst this dish is pretty good, tastes just like beef soup in Singapore, I couldn't get over what this soup was made up of so I stopped at 2 bowls even though I wasn't full at all.

If you don't already know what makes up this bowl of noodles, I took the liberty of Googling it for you.

Boat noodles or kuai tiao ruea is a Thai style noodle dish, which has a strong flavor. It contains both pork and beef, as well as Dark soy sauce, Pickled bean curd and some other spices, and is normally served with meatballs and pig’s liver. The soup also contains nam tok, which is cow or pigs blood mixed with salt, to season the soup. The color of the soup is similar to beef noodles soup. It is commonly served in a small bowl. (Credit: x)

Yup. I ate 2 bowls of noodles with blood in it. The first time I had this earlier this year, I didn't know what I was eating until I was done eating. Then I swore I would never eat boat noodles again. But SH really wanted some so I went along with him. Sobs. But never again.

Since he got to eat what he wanted to eat, I got to do what I wanted to do. So we spent yet a few hours shopping at Pratunam Market. I swear Pratunam is my holy grail shopping street because there isn't any where else (that I know of at least) which sells cheaper clothing than there.

Hopped on a tuktuk because the traffic was insane. Also, most of the cabs were full for some reason.

On our way back, we popped into the 7-Eleven and stocked up on noodles because firstly, the noodles in BKK taste amazing. And secondly, they are crazily cheap. I really really love the minced pork flavour from the brand Mama.

We were pretty lazy to head out for dinner so we popped downstairs once again. This is why I love staying at Bangkok City Hotel. There are quite a few roadside stalls just outside the hotel and the food is really good and decently priced.

I'm just going to state the food items and prices without explanations because they are pretty self-explanatory.

Stir Fried Morning Glory (70 baht).

Fried Chicken with Garlic (80 baht).

Omelette Minced Pork (70 baht).

(Not in the picture: Leo Beer (85 baht) and a plate of Rice (15 baht).
