If I had to choose only one makeup product to use on my face on days when I'm just too lazy, it'll definitely be an eyebrow pencil. A close second would probably be BB cream but the first is definitely an eyebrow pencil.
I don't know if you've already noticed but my eyebrow game is pretty strong. (See the photo below for reference.) Everyone likes to make fun of my eye brow game but I like it the way it is so #nohate. Also, ignore the red mark on my neck, stupid bugger (read: mosquito) bit me there and I scratched it so it looks like a hickey.
This isn't the first eyebrow pencil I've used. I've used the one from Lancome, Revlon and Innisfree before. I wanted to do a review on the Innisfree one because it's my first love but I finished it before I remembered I wanted to do a review on it. So I made sure to take photos of this one before I finished this one as well.
Today imma be talking about Holika Holika's Wonder Drawing 24hr Auto Eyebrow. Korean brands come up with the longest names for their products some times and this is just one such example. But I digress.
Holika Holika released 4 different shades for their eyebrow pencils. #01 Grey Black, #2 Dark Brown, #3 Light Brown, and #4 Red Brown.
I got mine in the shade #2 Dark Brown. I think the shade fits my hair colour pretty well (my natural hair is a really dark shade of brown), but it is a tad too reddish. Nothing I cannot deal with.
Like most "auto pencils" it comes with the eyebrow pencil on one end and a spoolie on the other. This makes it so convenient to use because you don't have carry 2 separate products around, an eyebrow pencil and another eyebrow brush.
Also, the good thing about "auto pencils" compared to normal eyebrow pencils is that you don't have to sharpen it. I cannot emphasize how much this fact appeals to me. I hate sharpening pencil products because I always end up breaking the tip as soon as I sharpen it. Which means I waste a good amount of product because the tip keeps breaking. With auto pencils, there is no sharpening needed at all. Just twist up the product and you're good to go. Major love!
This is the swatch of the colour on my hand. I know it looks chalky on my hand but it isn't when you use it on your brows. I don't really understand the reason behind this but I believe some one once told me that the reason why eyebrow products go on well on your eyebrows but not on the back of your hand is because the product works with the oil in your eyebrow hair. The back of our hand does not contain such oil which is why it doesn't glide on as well.
This is a photo of me without any eyebrow products on at all. I know my eyebrows look perfectly fine but I prefer to shape it into the way I want them to look. Basically this means touching it up a bit at the start of my eyebrows and a bit at the end.
Each strand of my eyebrow hair is pretty thick already so whenever I draw my eyebrows, it makes them look even thicker which sucks but if I were to touch up my eyebrows, it results in pretty thick eyebrow altogether. Personally, I have no issues with that.
And this photo is me with my eyebrows drawn. I don't know if you can tell but the colour doesn't really fit my eyebrows that well because it is a tad too reddish but in real life it isn't that obvious so it does not bother me much.
The colour payoff is amazing so don't overdo it with the strokes! Just use a light hand and make sure you brush away any harsh lines.
Also, it lasts throughout the whole day (I'm usually out of the house for more than 12 hours a day) which is great as I hate touching up makeup when I'm out.
Overall:
PROS:
- Really affordable
- Glides beautifully
- Does not tug my skin
- Comes with a spoolie at the end
- Does not need sharpening
- Great colour payoff
- Shape of the tip makes it easy to draw
- Lasts for a good 12h
CONS:
- I wish they had a better colour selection
I honestly do not have anything I really don't like about this product. It is so much more affordable compared to drugstore brands in Singapore like Revlon, Maybelline, Loreal... I believe this eyebrow pencil costed maybe 3,000-4,000 KRW which is like $5..? Insanely affordable right.
The colour payoff is good, the consistency is good, it's really easy to use, lasts a long time... Nothing not to love.
