Matte lips have been all the rage in the past year and I have usually stayed far far away because with matte lip products come drying formulas. But my interest definitely has been piqued because matte lips do look gorgeous on a lot of different people so I did my research and took the plunge with a bunch of colours from NYX's Soft Matte Lip Cream range and if you want to know my thoughts on these then please carry on reading.
At just US$6 per pop, they are really easy on the pocket. These lip creams come housed in a coloured plastic tube which reflects the colour of the lip cream, a matte screw on top and a doe foot applicator. The size of the lip creams are slightly smaller than others so that makes it really handy to throw in a makeup pouch and bring it along for on-the-go touch ups. A thing to take note is that the doe foot applicator is slightly bigger than normal so it makes it slightly harder to get a precise application if your lips are not very big.
The texture of the lip creams are just that, creamy. The consistency is thicker than your average lip gloss but it still feels lightweight on the lips. The colour payoff is incredible and one coat is pretty much enough to ensure an opaque colour. Despite the name, I don't feel that this lip cream offers a true matte finish, it's more of a semi-matte. If you want to get a true matte finish, use a piece of tissue to dab off any moisture on your lips after the lip cream dries.
When I applied this to my lips, I found that the lip cream makes my lips feel slightly dry for about the first 30 minutes or so. After the first 30 minutes, my lips stopped feeling dry. So for people with dry lips like I do, I would advise you to apply a lip balm before applying this lip cream. Thankfully though, this does not emphasise any dry flakes on my lips or overly sinks into the fine lines so despite the momentarily drying effect, it works well for me and feels pretty comfortable.
There is a lovely vanilla scent to this lip cream so if you're someone who is sensitive to scents then this may be something you have to look into. The scent is on the stronger side but it doesn't bother me one bit. These lip creams last 3-4 hours on my lips if I don't munch on anything and while they don't fade as gracefully as I hope they would, they did not go all splotchy on me either.
The first colour I have is the shade Milan and it is an amazing mid tone mauve pink. I love how this shade of pink instantly brightens up my complexion whenever I have it on. I'm not a huge fan of pink lipsticks but this one is just divine.
The second shade I have is Monte Carlo and it is a reddish pink. I am a huge fan of red lipsticks and I can never have too many red shades so this is an amazing addition to my collection!
The last colour I have is Amsterdam which is a bright true red. If you want a red lipstick that does not lean towards either the pinkish kind of red or the orangey red then this one is a definite winner. (Psst, I wore this colour for my ROM with SH!)

I really like the Soft Matte Lip Creams from NYX and I really wish all matte lip products were this comfortable on the lips. While I know that this is not possible, I am thankful that the first matte lip products I tried are these and it does pique my interest in trying more matte lip products. Till the next one, thank you for reading and have an amazing day!
