I have a love-hate relationship with lipsticks. I have really dry and sensitive lips. I have to apply lip balm almost every single hour at least if not my lips will peel and my cold sore will come back. This is why I hate applying lip sticks because I always have to apply lip balm which means I have to remove my lip stick, reapply my lip balm, then apply my lip stick which is such a hassle honestly.
However, I love how lipsticks can change your whole look just like that. Want a fresh look? Opt for a nude/light coloured lip product. Want something more bold? Just switch up your lip colour to something more bold like a purple or a bright red lippie. You don't even have to touch up any other face/eye product to achieve the change. It's really that simple.
So the first look which I've really been loving is a purple lip. I've been on a search for a purple lipstick for quite a while and I fell in love with this one from Silky Girl. This is the Moisture Smooth Lipcolour in the shade 09 Sugar Plum. Honestly, the reason why I got it was mainly because it was going for 2 for $10 at Watsons and Guardian. $5 for a lippie in Singapore is insanely affordable. No regrets so far.
While it definitely isn't the most hydrating lipstick, it sits pretty comfortably on my lips and it doesn't make my lips feel as dry as the Sahara desert. It does cling on to dry patches on my lips (slightly) so I have to make sure I get rid of any dry skin and properly hydrate my lips before applying this.
The staying power is pretty amazing though. I ate with this on my lips and when I was done, it was still there. It faded pretty decently and didn't crumble off in bits and pieces which is good because I'm not the biggest fan of checking on my makeup whilst I'm out and touching up on the go. I'm pretty lazy when it comes to touching up my makeup to be honest.
It gives a satin finish which isn't too glossy or too matte which I really like. At $5, there isn't much that I can complain about!
The second lip colour I've been loving is Aritaum's Honey Melting Tint in the shade Lady Dessert. I'm a huge fan of orange lipsticks and have been ever since I tried my first orange lippie more than a year ago. In fact, most of the lipsticks that scream my name for the past year have been orange/coral ones.
I know a lot of people cringe at the thought of using an orange lip colour because orange sounds like such a bright and unforgiving colour to apply on the lips but nothing can be further from the truth. Whilst there are orange lip colours which are super bold but there are ones which are very easy to use and don't make you look like Nicki Minaj gone wrong (sorry Nicki!!)
Although you can tell that my lips are orange coloured, it isn't too bright or too bold. I feel that orange is one of the colours that helps to make my face look brighter and this one does the trick.
Aritaum's honey melting tints are pretty moisturising and feel like a lip balm on my lips. There are times when I apply this without a lip balm underneath. The staying power isn't that fantastic though. You can probably go for 3-4 hours without touch ups before it starts fading away. For the price, once again, I cannot complain. I can't remember how much this was but I'm pretty sure I paid less than $5 per tint because my sister bought this for me when they were having their 1-for-1 sale.
