Bangkok Travelogue: Day 2 // Pratunam Morning Market, Sabx2 Wonton Mee & More Thai Cuisin

The one thing we really wanted to do whilst in BKK was to go clothes shopping and I think that the best place to do so is to wake up really early, like 4am early, and head to Pratunam Morning Market to do your shopping.

Pratunam Market is famous for cheap clothes shopping, however, the morning market is even better. There are three "markets" at Pratunam that operate at different times even though they pretty much occupy the same place.

Pratunam Morning Market

Firstly, there is the morning market which operates from about 4-8am (the best time to head over is about 5-7am because that's when most of the shops open). This is the best place to get cheap clothing because the prices are about 10-50 baht cheaper than what you get at the Pratunam Day Market.

I believe that the morning market is targeted at selling clothing at wholesale prices to the locals because when I went, the majority of the shoppers there were locals who were pulling crazy big trolleys filled with clothes in them.

Most of the sellers are only willing to sell you at "wholesale" prices if you buy 3 pieces of the same clothing. You can get them in the same colour or different colours. However, if you choose to mix different pieces together than they will charge you at a higher price.

For example, if you were to buy one piece of clothing A, the sellers will probably quote you 200 baht. If you get 3 pieces of clothing A, either in the same colour or in different colours, per piece would cost you 120 baht. If you were to get 1 piece of clothing A, 1 piece of clothing B and 1 piece of clothing C, per piece may be 150 baht. I say, if you were to like the clothing, just get 3 pieces in different colours because either way, it's so much cheaper than what you will find in Singapore anyway.

To get here, just tell any taxi/tuktuk driver to go to "Baiyoke Sky Hotel" and the morning market will be just around the corner.

Pratunam Day Market

Then, there's the day market which operates from about 9am to 5pm (the best time to head over is around 11am to 3pm) and is located in the same area just indoors. Prices are slightly higher here than what you will find in the morning market but they are still really cheap by Singapore's standards! For those who do not wish to wake up early, the day market will definitely suffice.

It can get pretty crowded after lunch so be sure to head over early to snatch up whichever piece of clothing catches your eye.

The same wholesale rules that apply to the morning market applies to the day market as well. Some times though, you may be lucky enough to find some sellers willing to let go of their goods at wholesale prices if you get any 3 pieces of clothing from the shop.

To get here, just tell the taxi/tuktuk driver "Pratunam Market" and they will know where to go.

Pratunam Night Market

The night market occupies the same area as the morning market. The one time I went to the night market, I realised that most of the stuff sold there were men's stuff. I don't know if it was the day I went, or whether the night market typically sells mostly men's stuff but for all the guys who do not get to shop enough during the day, be sure to check the night market out!

On the tuktuk back to our hotel after a morning of shopping at the morning market.

We went back our hotel to have some breakfast before crashing in bed because we were so exhausted from waking up early two days in a row.

We pretty much only woke up in time for lunch and we decided to head to Sabx2 Wonton Mee since everyone raves about how good it is.

Sorry for the really poor lighting but...

This was such a disappointment if I were to be honest. I don't know why everyone raves about it so much?! The noodles were really oily and tasteless and the portion was ridiculously small? I've heard so many different people say so much good stuff about this place that I was honestly hoping that the noodles would be good but sadly, they weren't. Also, for such a small portion I think it costed us probably 50 baht per bowl?

After lunch, we pretty much spent the rest of the day shopping at Pratunam Day Market and at Platinum Fashion Mall.

The shopping at Platinum Mall is definitely cheaper than that in Singapore. However, when compared to Pratunam Market, the prices are definitely a cut higher. The average prices of clothing sold at Pratunam ranges from 80-150 baht whereas the prices at Platinum Mall range from 200 baht onwards. Nonetheless, everything is cheaper than that in Singapore.

After shopping till we nearly dropped, we decided to head to our hotel and had the street food outside our hotel for dinner once again.

Hi! It is in the same area but the morning market is outdoors and the day market is indoors. However, I cannot be sure that the morning market is still in operation because I heard that the government has been cleaning up markets in BKK. I hope this helps!
