Three Years in a Balloon // 3YB

A few weeks ago, I found myself at Three Years in a Balloon, better known to the staff of Wimbly Lu as 3YB. My reason for being there? Chef Jin Wei offered to cook us a feast and I was one of the lucky ones to be invited over.

If you didn't already know, 3YB is opened by the bosses of Wimbly Lu. Most of our bakers were relocated over to 3YB due to space constraints in Wimbly Lu.

Three Years in a Balloon is a cafe offering a regularly updated selection of desserts and ice creams, all handmade daily from scratch on the premises by our confectionery maestros. Our ready-made desserts showcase just some of the ways we can customise a cake to the flavours and decorative concepts of your choosing, and we'd be thrilled to help you celebrate your occasion or event with a bespoke cake of dessert table. We eschew artificial flavours and colourings, and in the continual endeavour to delight and comfort through our tasty treats, we take pride in melding the skills of a professionally trained pastry chef with the heartfelt personal touch of a home baker.

The only other time I've been to 3YB besides the opening party was when I hand-delivered the DnD invitations to the bakers last year so I was pretty stoked to head over to see my beloved and greatly missed bakers.

Just shy of a year ago, the bakers were all still baking full time at Wimbly and I got to hang out with them every single day that I worked. But now with their relocation, I only get to see some of them on their weekly rotation shifts at Wimbly whilst some of them are stationed at 3YB permanently and I only see them at events such as weddings or parties :'<

Besides acting as a baking space for the bakers, 3YB also has cakes and desserts that are unique to them only. One such example is their Chocolate Truffle Cake ($6) which I have personally tried and really liked.

This cake is super moist and melts in your mouth perfectly. I could eat a whole slice by myself and still have space for more.

Their Pandan Chiffon Cake with Gula Melaka is also another personal favourite of mine. I've had it twice already and I still think it's amazing. Definitely give this cake a try if you're a fan of pandan~

Humble but scrumptious lunch personally prepared by the Chef who's leaving us at the end of the month :'<

I can't accurately describe what he cooked because I'm not really a foodie myself but the truffle mashed potato was amazing! I thought the mushroom soup was really good too~

Photos with my favourite bakers~

One photo with the Chef himself. He'll be moving on to Good Wood Park Hotel! All the best in your future endeavors and I'm really going to miss working with you at Wimbly :'<
