Carpenter & Cook

The second part of my surprise was a visit to Carpenter and Cook. I've heard of this cafe but I've never been to it before so I was pretty psyched to head over!

The whole place is decorated with quaint little bits and pieces which I really love! How often do you see classic bread and flour bins, typewriters or antique clocks? I was really impressed with their collection!

Here's the really funny bit.

Cheryl and Charisse attempted to surprise me with a candle on the cake but I found out in the end. Hahahha.

So we got a table and Charisse asked me to sit at a particular spot and I complied without thinking because it's just a seat after all. She then askied me to look at the display items on the right which was what I did, once again without thinking. But I so happened to glance to the back to see the cake displays and caught Cheryl attempting to light the candle on the cake and the candle refusing to be lit up.

I promptly burst out laughing and was still laughing when Cheryl reached the table with the cakes and the candle unlit because the air conditioning was too strong and kept blowing the flame out. My friends are probably the cutest ever I reckon.

She finally lit the candle!

Is it only me but I hate having people sing birthday songs for me, especially when we're in a public place. I feel so awkward and I don't know where to look or what to do. And when outside, random strangers tend to join in and it makes the whole situation really weird for me haha.

I believe this is their passionfruit meringue tart and I love the passionfruit curd inside! I'm not a huge fan of crusts in general, both in pastries and on pizzas but my friends thought the crust was pretty good.
